In Vermont, outgoing Governer Peter Shumlin is giving out pardons to residents convicted of possessing small amounts of cannabis.
Residents who have been convicted of small amounts can visit the governer’s office website at governor.vermont.gov, and apply for a pardon. The pardons will be for all convictions of up to one ounce for people without violent convictions or felonies on their record. Shumlin says he expects between 10,000 and 17,000 people to be eligable for pardons.
This is a great step forward to end the failed war on drugs policy of marijuana prohibitioin in Vermont. Over 80,000 residents in Vermont admit to using cannabis on a monthly basis with 55 percent of the state favoring legalization (32 percent opposed).
