Mercury Room Yeg presents... Friday, August 4 Doors 8pm No minors The Dabs, with Orbital Express (Official), and IRON EYES THE DABS The Dabs are three human hosts that meet weekly in an ancient Canadian basement to jam stoner rock at torturous loud levels. In that basement located on Alberta Avenue in Edmonton, they have created rudimentary rooms out of wooden planks from an unknown fishing vessel disassembled in the early 1800's. The basement itself has been growing mold since 1905 and contains a few rare specimens of fungi known only to parts of northern Newfoundland and Iceland. Oddly enough, the trio also brings locally grown fungi to ingest while they blast stoner surf guitar riffs over badlands rock percussion. When singer and guitarist Jeremy Dabs starts oscillating his MXR Carbon Copy delay pedal between 13-66Hz, it stirs up the century old spores thus releasing hundreds of airborne spores that travel through the air like ravenous jellyfish. Throughout their hour or two long psychedelic jams, spores enter every orifice of the band members and make their way into their nervous systems affecting their inhibitions, muscle memory, and prefrontal cortex functions of bassist Zac, guitarist/front man Jeremy, and drummer Ty. The Dabs must obey the microcosms of the mycelium that has webbed itself throughout their brains. Unaware of their infection, they must tour around Canada peeing on all the toilet seats of every house party, bar, and neighborhood pub that will book them. This will eventually spread the prehistoric mold nationwide. The new album "Powerful Medicine" has been self released and the physical copies come with a package of peanut butter. (99% roasted peanuts, 1% spores) On thing is certain, Powerful Medicine is breaking the mold of stoner rock. The Dabs are coming to your town soon. ORBITAL EXPRESS http://www.orbitalexpress.ca/ Orbital Express are a punishing stoner rock group from Regina, Saskatchewan. The current lineup consists of Adam Ennis (Drums/Lead Vocals), Roberto Giannini (Guitar/Vocals, Drew Duchscher (Guitar), and Matthew Fraser (Bass Vocals). After forming in 2007, Orbital Express became an instant force on the local rock scene, noted for chaotic live performances and swaggering, heavy songs. During the following years, Orbital Express expanded their borders, playing alongside international standouts like Black Mountain, Lion Eyes, Stratovarius (Finland), Monotonix (Israel), and CLUTCH. In 2010, the momentum of the band accumulated in the release of their debut self-titled album featuring hits "Space Station Fornication" and "March To Mars." After a hiatus beginning in 2011, Orbital Express reformed in 2016. The following year they released their second LP, "Light Years From Home," recorded at Blue Door Recording Studio in Regina, Saskatchewan. Produced by Byron Chambers and mastered by Justin Bender, the record is a heady distillation of the band's wild energy. Tracks are alternately sincere and darkly ironic, tied together by the inevitable colossus of fuzz and drums.
