Newsmakers Live Talks Marijuana

Newsmakers Live continues our 10th Anniversary Election series in a two-part show. Atlanta's city council unanimous decision to decriminalize marijuana Monday. Sponsored by District 2 Councilman Kwanza Hall, Ordinance 17-O-1152 proposes to make the penalty for possession of one ounce or less a $75 fine. NML moderator and Emmy-award winning journalist Maynard Eaton will discuss the decriminalizing of weed with mayoral candidate and major advocate, Senator Vincent Fort. What impact the legislation will have on Atlanta's youth and criminal justice system - a city where 92% of individuals arrested for marijuana are black. The Post 1, At-Large City Council pitting incumbent Michael Julian Bond against former Atlanta School Board President Courtney English has become the most combative, contentious and controversial race this election. They are literally fighting each other to win. Part II of Newsmakers Live will begin at 8 pm. Final thoughts from NML executive producer, Jim Welcome will conclude both parts of the show. Don't forget Atlanta, NML After Dark will host Crafts and Couples immediately following the show. Grab a drink from Atlanta's most excellent craft bartenders. Drink specials and food specials all night.
