Recreational Marijuana: How Would You Regulate It?

The B.C. provincial government wants to hear from you about how it should regulate the recreational use of marijuana when the federal government makes such use legal next July. The province seeks public opinion on six issues: minimum age, maximum amount of personal possession, consumption in public, drug-impaired driving, personal cultivation, and how it should be sold and distributed. Unfortunately, there has been limited public discussion which could help you form your preferences on these important issues, or much publicity on how to make your voice heard. As a result, the provincial consultation could be dominated by special and financial interests, lacking valuable citizen input. This is where you come in! Please join SFU City Conversations and its experts for a conversation on this hot topic that will shape public policy for years to come. Starting the conversation are Vancouver Councillor Kerry Jang, UBC researcher Rielle Capler, PhDc, along with another presenter tbc. Then, it’s your turn to question, observe, and offer your opinions. We’ll also show you how to submit your preferences to the provincial consultation. Don’t miss this important edition of SFU City Conversations. As always, come early to ensure a seat, and please feel free to bring your lunch. In addition, by November 1, tell the BC government how you feel they should shape Cannabis regulation in BC. https://engage.gov.bc.ca/BCcannabisregulation/ Thursday, October 19 12:30 - 1:30 PM SFU Vancouver at Harbour Centre 515 W.
