CALL to Action: Marijuana & Justice

Our organizing for economic justice in Sacramento's marijuana policies has led to progress, but we CANNOT RELAX. The City of Sacramento is now looking at the idea of spending $6.8M a year to protect the money of Sacramento’s largely rich and white controlled marijuana businesses. Zero dollars have been identified to help entrepreneurs of color, particularly African Americans, whose families and neighborhoods were disproportionately destroyed by marijuana jail sentences. BLACK SACRAMENTO must show up in strong numbers at 5pm at City Hall (915 I Street - Downtown) on this TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2017!!! PLEASE TRY TO BRING AT LEAST 3 BLACK PEOPLE with you, and ask them to bring others. We will urge our Mayor and every City Councilmember to not condone the rape of African Americans in this industry, as we were with cotton and tobacco. More specifically, we will demand 3 things::::::: 1) SCHOLARSHIPS that remove all the business license application fees for people hurt most by the Drug War. The current license costs are as high as $45,000.00. We have fully earned a right to HALF OF ALL THE BUSINESS LICENSES!!! 2) INCUBATOR work spaces affordable enough for us to start up businesses, with FUNDING for community controlled support programs that help our businesses to be successful. 3) LOAN FUND with no interest or low interest loans to help Black entrepreneurs start up their businesses!!! This event is NOT about helping people to smoke weed. It’s about ECONOMIC JUSTICE. It’s about growing businesses that we OWN so we can repair our own community with the investments that are necessary to do so.
