Cannabis & Women's Health

The cannabis plant is rebuilding its relationship with a group of overlooked admirers: women. The herb is revered for its beautiful and intoxicating female flowers, and cannabis has a history in women’s health that spans centuries. This event will help reconnect women with this long-lost key to physical and spiritual health. Whether you're a connoisseur or just cannabis-curious you are welcome to attend. It has long been the go-to plant for female reproductive issues, such as painful periods, emotional instability, and other problems. Cannabis can also help with weight management, uterus function, estrogen stability, labor pains, headaches, depression, fatigue, endometriosis treatment, menopause relief, and be used as an illness preventative, excersize stimulator, mother's aid, sexual health, creativity enhancer, and to encourage relaxation. This evening will consist of a panel discussion with Jessica Peters (moxiemeds.com) and Kelley Bruce (cannamommy.org) who will present from their years of experience working with women and cannabis and answer your questions to make this an open discussion. This event is made possible thanks to our sponsor Elevation 2477' - the first dispensary to open in Nevada City, coming in early 2018! Formerly the CBD Specialist at Harborside Health Center, she works with components of the cannabis plant currently left untouched by the broader industry. She combines a interdisciplinary graduate degree in the sciences with 8 years of professional experience in the cannabis industry, where she was first working primarily with HIV/AIDS patients at Market St Cooperative (formerly ACT UP!) in San Francisco. In addition to being a cannabinoid and terpene specialist, Jessica also works in Research and Development in an attempt to better the medications available to patients. She hopes to further the engagement between cannabis research and Western medicine healthcare providers as well as professionals in natural and alternative medicine and nutrition, with the goal of improving the quality and efficacy of modern cannabis medication options. KELLEY BRUCE In 2010 Kelly Bruce was raising her daughter alone living in the beautiful mountains of Breckenridge Colorado teaching children to ski for Vail resorts. On NYE she was hit by a drunk driver and suffered injuries to her lower back and neck. These injuries would ultimately end her skiing profession, sending her on the path of pharmaceutical pain management. After a horrible out of body experience one night on Ambien; she decided there had to be a better way to manage the pain and still be able to have confidence to be an effective parent. She was not only able to completely manage pain to the point of not even needing Advil, but she was able to come off of other medications for medical conditions such as ADD and Major Depressive Disorder. She was amazed at how versatile the plant was in alleviating ailments. She became quite outspoken about the benefits; advocating for the various ways to use it. In 2012 someone reported her medical use to Child Protective Services. Kelly openly and willingly admitted she was a medical patient and using cannabis to treat medical conditions. She believed her choice with direction and care of her doctors were better than using the prescription drugs. The state disagreed with her choice to consume a schedule 1 illicit drug, even while under her legal right with the state, and Kelly was founded of her charges. She fought. Hard; appealing the court's ruling. After a 2 year probation all charges were dropped. This experience is what sparked a fire inside Kelly that has grown into CannaMommy.org.
