OUR Ecovillage presents 2 weeks of workshops and special events for builders and professionals on the cutting edge of sustainable building with the building of OUR new office with Just Biofibre hemp blocks. What if the health and simplicity of natural buildings could be joined with the performance demands of high efficiency commercial buildings? This summer we will introduce a new building product made of hemp showcasing how Just BioFiber blocks offer a simple and fast building process. •••••• This course is divided into TWO parts: 1. Ecological Design and Construction 2. Hands On Work - Topics include - • Designing relationship to land and climate • Wall systems for health and sustainability • Design for Energy performance • Permits and Professional Support • Passive solar design • Innovative Systems for a sustainable village • Introduction of JustBioFiber products and methodology • First hands-on sessions for blocks • Designers and Professionals talks about ecological design • Learn how to install doors/windows • Connections to foundation and roof • How to handle electrical installation. • Detailing for JBF blocks • Finishing options • Afternoon with Building inspectors and a Professional development day •••••• Investment: $800 CAD Accommodation and Food Upgrades Available. •••••• - About O.U.R. Ecovillage - O.U.R. ECOVILLAGE is a 25 acre “Sustainable Living Demonstration Site and Education Center” where you have the opportunity to view ecological design structures built with everything from cob, straw bale, rammed earth, living roofs, rainwater harvesting, grey/black water recycling, alternative energy, and many other innovative design features. Nowhere else in Canada can you find such a comprehensive ensemble of alternative buildings and permaculture design. We also have spaces for gatherings of different flavours: a large Yurt (great for circles and dancing), a large Community Classroom (for presentations), the Healing Sanctuary (for quiet conversation and meditation), many various natural buildings, the 150 person Zero Mile Eatery, and the Chillage (casual covered outdoor space). There are multiple types of indoor and outdoor showers, composting toilets. For some quiet time you can walk the labyrinth, sit by the pond or take a walk in the woods.
