Cannabis as an Exit Drug for the Opioid Epidemic

CBS News recently reported that "The latest numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that 64,070 people died from drug overdoses in 2016. That's a 21 percent increase over the year before. Approximately three-fourths of all drug overdose deaths are now caused by opioids — a class of drugs that includes prescription painkillers as well as heroin and potent synthetic versions like fentanyl." "According to the report, more Americans died from drug overdoses in 2016 than the number of American lives lost in the entirety of the Vietnam War, which totaled 58,200." But what if there was an alternative for treating chronic pain? An increasing number of studies provide evidence that many patients can use cannabis instead of opioids to treat their pain, or they can significantly reduce their reliance on opioids. A University of Michigan March 2016 study published in the Journal of Pain provides some compelling data. They found that cannabis: Decreased side effects from other medications Improved quality of life Reduced use of opioids (on average) by 64% __________________________ At this event IMPACT Network Executive Director Dr. Michele Ross will provide an overview of how cannabis and CBD can help you live a healthier and happier live with chronic pain or in recovery from opioids. Who attends? You'll meet women (and men) at all different stages of their career in the cannabis industry. Many will be in the research phase, just learning more about opportunities, while still working day jobs. Some are looking for jobs with existing organizations. Others are starting up their own cannabis venture or ancillary business. Depending on the status of legalization in your state, you'll also meet cannabis business owners & investors who are well on their way. Why should I attend?
