King County School Based Health Centers Mental Health Provider Professional Development

We have a fantastic Professional Development opportunity on January 30, 2019 (day between semesters in Seattle schools) focused on skill-building for the use of evidence-based practices for SBHC mental health providers. This training is the beginning of a series of trainings this school year that will go into the spring to support our mental health model of care implementation. Please plan to attend the entire training day. The morning will be focused on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy led by Dr. Nathaniel Jungbluth from UW. Dr. Jungbluth will provide training and resources for doing CBT for anxiety in school settings. He will start with a brief overview of CBT+ (a statewide CBT training initiative) and share information on many free CBT+ resources and practice supports available online. He will then cover the core components of CBT for anxiety, considering both the opportunities and challenges of doing this work in schools.  The afternoon will be led by Paul Barry (who is familiar to some of you as a former school based provider at the Ballard THC) and Anna Hink of the UW AIMS Center. Their training will be the first part of several this school year and will be focused on the use of measurement-based care tools specifically for caring for kids with anxiety, depression and other top diagnoses. For a portion of the afternoon, age-specific break out groups will tailor support for specific needs for serving elementary, middle, and high school students. We will provide continental breakfast, lunch, and snacks so please RSVP no later than 1/16/19 so that we have enough food. If you have dietary restrictions, please indicate that. We will offer CEUs. As this is during the SR 99 closure, we strongly suggest you plan accordingly for travel. The Capitol Hill light rail station is 6 blocks (all uphill) from the meeting location (and the #s 8 or 10 buses go east on John Street heading up the hill to Kaiser from just outside the light rail exit to Broadway and John Street). If you do drive, there is a parking lot available off of E. Denny Way between 15th and 16th Ave E. The all day rate is $18. The room location is in the MAIN building on the 6th floor (D649). You can enter through Urgent Care then go south down the long hallway and take the elevator at the end of hallway on the right to the 6th floor. Here is a campus map: https://wa.kaiserpermanente.org/static/pdf/public/locations/capitol-hill.pdf We will begin our day promptly at 8:00 am with a welcome from Dr. Elizabeth McCauley and we will end our day by 5:00 pm.
